Jet, May 31, 1999
Paul Silas has been named head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. He reportedly accepted a four-year deal worth $6 million. Silas, a former assistant, took over as interim coach when head coach Dave Cowens resigned. Silas, a former NBA player, is credited with helping the Hornets make an unexpected turnaround this season.
When he took over, the team's record was 4-11. Under Silas, the Hornets went 22-13 and missed making the playoffs by only one game.
