Two Blacks, Seattle Mariners centerfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and Cincinnati Reds second baseman Pokey Reese were among the Major League Baseball players to win the coveted 1999 Gold Glove award.

The winners of this annual award for excellence, which is given to 18 players representing each position in both the National and American Leagues, were chosen by Major League coaches and managers before the end of the regular season.

The award is the tenth Gold Glove for Griffey, who was drafted by the Mariners in the first round in 1987. His speed and agility have been instrumental in his performing some of the most acrobatic catches in baseball history.

Reese was drafted by the National League's Cincinnati Reds in the first round in 1991. He spent much of the 1998 season injured with a torn ligament in his thumb. However, this season he dazzled baseball fans with his outstanding fielding at second base. This year's Gold Glove is his first.
