Lisa J. Lindsay Wicker, former manager of employee enthusiasm strategies at General Motors Corporation, has been named vice president of human resources at MGM Grand Detroit Casino. She is the first Black woman to be named to this position at MGM Grand. She will manage the strategic infrastructure, including recruitment, benefits, career development, labor relations, community affairs and training.

Don King, noted professional boxing promoter, has been named a member of the board of trustees at Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. In naming him to the board, Shaw trustees applauded King's humanitarian efforts. Last year he received an honorary doctorate degree from Shaw. The private Black college has a 40-member board.

Rosell R. Caswell, director of new Student Orientation at Florida A&M University, has been elected president of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals. As president, she will represent the association at mid-year, regional and national meetings and preside over all meetings of the executive board. She will appoint committee chairpersons and provide them with guidance and support.

Michael Reed, Jackson State University's top academic senior for 1998-1999, has earned a $100,000 graduate scholarship from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The scholarship, which provides $20,000 per year for five years, is awarded for graduate study at any U.S. institution which offers a doctoral degree program in chemistry, physics or mathematics.

Marian H. Carrington, principal and co-owner of Carrington & Carrington, Ltd., has been elected president of the Board of Directors of the Chicago chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. The organization is an advocacy group that seeks to empower Black women to meet their diverse needs by networking programs and linking the organization with the corporate and political sectors.
