SWEET REWARD: Toronto Raptors forward Vince Carter kisses his trophy after he was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year. The former University of North Carolina standout received 113 out of 118 votes. Carter, who dominated highlight films this season with his acrobatic dunks and all-around athleticism, had observers calling him half man and half amazing.
The Raptors leading scorer led all rookies in scoring with an 18.3 average and in shot blocking. He was third in assists, fourth in rebounding, fifth in steals and sixth in field goal percentage. His play helped the Raptors improve from a 16-66 record last season to a 23-27 mark. He was named Schick Rookie of the Month for March and April and was the only rookie to be named NBA Player of the Week this season.
