George Foreman Donates To Houston's Flood Relief Efforts

Jet, July 2, 2001

Former boxing champion and grilling entrepreneur George Foreman donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross to aid recovery efforts after Tropical Storm Allison hit the Houston area earlier this month. The contribution will go to aid flood victims.

"This is from my family to the people who are suffering in the area," said Foreman, who lives in the Kingwood area of Houston. "To know that a lot of people in the area can use a helping hand, I hope this can help. It's not a whole lot, but it means a lot to me."

Foreman, 52, took his Hummer into the flooded streets of Houston and offered help to the victims.

At least 22 people died in the flooding, and some 20,000 Houston-area residents were displaced.
