HISTORIC MISS GEORGIA CROWNING: Danica Tisdale, Miss Atlanta, is crowned Miss Georgia 2004 by Andrea Bailey, Miss Georgia 2003, at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus, GA. Tisdale's win made her the first Black to wear the crown in the pageant's 60-year history. Tisdale won the competition against 49 other candidates during the 50th anniversary of the first Miss Georgia competition.

She will compete in September for the Miss America title. Tisdale, 24, earned an undergraduate degree in English at Spelman College and a master's degree at Temple University. A doctoral candidate at Emory University, she is taking a year off and plans to restart her coursework next fall. Tisdale ran on the platform of home, health and hospice. She sang Send Me Someone To Love for the talent competition. She is the daughter of Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, president of Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC, and Alice Carson Tisdale, director of the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College within Claflin.
