Jet, Jan 17, 2005
Award winning-musician Prince still rules the stage. Recently it was reported that his Musicology tour was the most popular concert last year.
The concert grossed $87.4 million, according to Pollstar's Top 25 concert tours chart for 2004.
Prince's 69-city, 96-show tour was "by far the biggest tour he has ever done," said Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of Pollstar, the concert industry trade publication. "It's kind of a renaissance for him."
His Royal Badness performed full versions of some of his classic songs for what he said would be the last time.
Last year was a big year for Prince in more ways than one (JET, April 26, 2004). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he dropped the CD Musicology and he commemorated the 20th anniversary of the song and movie Purple Rain, which won an Oscar for Best Original Song Score in 1985.
Musicology earned Prince five Grammy nominations this year.
Usher was the only other Black named on the list. He was also one of the younger acts mentioned. His Truth Tour came in at No. 18, raking in $29.1 million.
