Ashford And Simpson Celebrates 25 Years Of Marriage With Gala In New York

Jet, Dec 20, 1999

The husband-and-wife songwriting-performing team of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson once immortalized their endearing union in the 1984 hit song Solid.

Today, after more than two decades of marriage, Ashford and Simpson's love is still solid as a rock. The two just recently celebrated 25 years of marriage during a posh affair at Tavern on the Green in New York.

The star-studded event, which included a cocktail party, dinner and dance, was a night the legendary duo won't soon forget with show business buddies such as Quincy Jones, Nancy Wilson, Gayle King, Lynn Whitfield and civil fights leader the Rev. Al Sharpton on hand to help them celebrate the occasion.

Ashford and Simpson wrote classic hits such as Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing, You're All I Need To Get By, Reach Out And Touch Somebody's Hand and I'm Every Woman. As performers they won fame with the popular tunes Send It, Don't Cost You Nothing, Is It Still Good To Ya, It Seems To Hang On, Found A Cure and Love Don't Make It Right.
