Birthday Celebration
Jet, June 26, 2000
Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) is applauded by Vice President Al Gore as he celebrates his 70th birthday during a reception at the Supper Club in New York. The reception and dinner raised at least $3 million for the Democratic Party. Gore, who is running for U.S. president, said the Democrats must regain control of Congress this year.
Rangel is in line to chair the House Ways and Means Committee should Democrats oust the Republican majority.
