Musical `Heroes' Honored

MUSICAL `HEROES' HONORED: Diana Ross and B.B. King hold their awards after the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc. (NARAS) presented them with Heroes Awards during its fifth annual NARAS Heroes Award 2000 Gala at the Hotel Roosevelt in New York. Blues great King, who is enjoying the success of his current project, Riding With The King, a collaboration with legendary musician Eric Clapton, was presented his honor by celebrated actor-comedian Bill Cosby.
Ross, whose acclaimed career spans more than three decades, was presented her honor by sons, Ross, 12, Evan, 11, and daughter, actress Rhonda Ross Kendrick. The Heroes Awards, the highest distinction bestowed by the New York Chapter, honors outstanding individuals whose creative talents and accomplishments cross all musical boundaries and who are integral to the vitality of the music community. Other recipients included Bernadette Peters, Phil Ramone, Frank Military and the late Tito Puente.
