Carol Moseley-Braun To Teach Politics At Morris Brown College In Atlanta This Fall

Jet, July 9, 2001

Former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun has accepted a job as professor of politics at Morris Brown College in Atlanta.

Moseley-Braun, a former ambassador to New Zealand, will lecture and teach a course in government at the historically Black college.

"I'm excited to be in the classroom teaching young people about government, because if you like politics, you have to understand government,"

Moseley-Braun said. "If you are in politics and you don't understand government, you are dangerous."

Added Moseley-Braun, "I don't presume to come in knowing how to be a professor, but I know my subject matter cold."

Moseley-Braun was offered the job by Morris Brown President Dr. Dolores Cross.

"I had to sell her on the idea of Morris Brown, but I also knew that she had a passion that is not unlike what Morris Brown is like-giving people a chance," Cross said. "She saw the fit."

She also will work with former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young as a consultant at GoodWorks International, a consulting company that brings together investors and entrepreneurs, particularly in Third World nations.

"They have created a market to support and assist U.S. businesses in their endeavors in the second and third worlds," she said.

"My experience in the Senate and as an ambassador brings another piece to the worldwide focus they have here."
