Suge Knight could face prison time for possible parole violation
Jet, July 21, 2003
Marion "Suge" Knight, founder of the Death Row Records label, now known as Tha Row, may have violated his parole after he was arrested for allegedly punching a parking attendant outside a Los Angeles nightclub.
Knight, 37, was arrested by state parole officers a week after the alleged incident at the White Lotus Club. At JET press time, he was being held without bail at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
"Apparently he was upset that his car was not readily available," said Russ Heimerich, a Department of Corrections spokesman.
Parole officials said they will ask the California Board of Prison Terms to determine whether Knight violated his parole conditions. The state agency would have 30 days to decide whether to revoke Knight's parole, which could lead to as much as a year in prison, parole officials said.
This is the second time that Knight has been arrested on suspicion of violating his parole for a 1996 felony assault conviction. Earlier this year he was arrested for violating the terms of his parole. That parole violation involved his association a reputed gang member (JET, Jan. 20).
Knight was released after he spent 61 days in the Los Angeles County jail.
Seven years ago Knight was arrested for violating his probation in connection with a fight in a Las Vegas casino that preceded the shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur. Those violations resulted in a five-year prison sentence that ended in 2001.
