Staple Singers and Pinetop Perkins among Recording Academy lifetime achievement awards honorees

The Staple Singers and Pinetop Perkins are among this year's recipients of lifetime achievement awards from the Recording Academy, which also presents the Grammys.
The awards "recognize music people who have made a lasting contribution to culture around the world."
Along with the gospel-soul family group the Staple Singers and blues pianist Pinetop Perkins, late jazz drummer Art Blakey and the late jazz pioneer Jelly Roll Morton are posthumously honored.
Trustees Awards recipients this year include "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius and jazz recording artist/composer and educator Billy Taylor. "Trustees" are honored for their non-performing contributions and for technical achievement.
Other honorees include: Eddy Arnold, the original members of the Carter Family, Morton Gould, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin and Jerry Lee Lewis. Other trustee honorees are Phil Ramone, Hoagy Carmichael and Alfred Lion.
The recipients will be honored during a Feb. 12 ceremony. The 47th annual Grammy Awards will be presented Feb. 13 in Los Angeles.
