Jet, July 16, 2001
R&B singer Lil' Mo has canceled all public appearances and is resting at home following an attack that required her to get more than 20 stitches in her head.
The 23-year-old singer had finished performing at a concert, given by radio station KMEL, at San Francisco's Warfield Theater when she was struck on the head with a bottle. She was rushed to California Pacific Hospital where she received more than 20 stitches.
The attacker, at JET press time, had not been identified and there had been no arrest.
Lil' Mo was promoting her popular song Superwoman Pt. 2 from her new album, Based on a True Story, at the time of the incident.
"Elektra deplores this senseless act of violence," stated Greg Thompson, executive general manager of Elektra Records, the label under which she's signed. "We hope that the perpetrator is caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. For this to happen on the eve of the most exciting week of Mo's career makes us all doubly sad. Everyone at Elektra is praying for a speedy recovery and extends our heartfelt best wishes to Lil' Mo, who truly is a `superwoman' in our book."
Lil' Mo has collaborated on Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott's hit song Hot Boyz and on Ja Rule's smash tune I Cry.
