Eve & Missy Elliott, Hip-Hop's Hottest Females, Featured In August EBONY

Jet, July 16, 2001

EBONY'S August issue features two of hip-hop's hottest female rappers in the cover story "Eve & Missy Elliott: Taking Rap To A New Level."

These women, who some say have brought a new level of respect to the female image of hip hop, discuss with EBONY the trials and tribulations they've had to endure in the male-dominated industry of rap music.

Within the past five years both performers have sold more CDs than any other female hip-hop artist. The trendsetters continue to top the charts with Scorpion, Eve's current CD that spent weeks at No. 1 upon its debut, and Miss E ... So Addictive, Missy's latest project that sold 250,000 copies in its first week of release.

The August issue also profiles one of today's premier gospel artists in "How Donnie McClurkin Overcame Rape, Sexual Abuse And Leukemia Scare To Become A Gospel Music Star."

EBONY dedicates a special section of the magazine to one of the world's most famous Black neighborhoods, pointing out its apparent signs of progress in "The New Harlem."

For those of you who may be single and free to mingle check out "Updating Your Dating Skills." And to keep from looking for love in all the wrong places read "Dangerous Liaisons: 5 Relationships You Should Avoid."

The August EBONY also tells the story of the buying and selling of human beings in the moving piece "The Truth About Slavery In Sudan."
