Caption: FIRST BLACK HONOREE: Winifred Hervey, a 77-year-old retired mother of five children, was recently named the Beverly Hills 2004 Older American of the Year. Hervey, a.k.a. "Wini," is the first Black recipient in the 39-year history of the award. At a small ceremony held at Beverly Hills City Hall, Hervey is congratulated by daughter Christie Hervey, granddaughter Esa Stallworth, son Ramon Hervey II, Beverly Hills Mayor Mark Egerman, grandson Otto Stallworth, daughter Winifred Hervey and grandson Jamie Gibson. Hervey has been active in community and grass roots organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles area for the past two decades, including an integral role in the Active Adult Club and its various activities.
