George Foreman Says That Joe Louis Was Better `Boxer' Than Muhammad Ali
Jet, Dec 28, 1998
When it comes to the greatest of all time in boxing, former heavyweight champion George Foreman says "The Brown Bomber" Joe Louis was better than Muhammad Ali.
"There's never been a boxer better than Joe Louis," Foreman said during a BBC radio interview. "You'd take one shot from him and you were sure he'd have seven or eight more coming for you. Certainly Muhammad Ali was the greatest man ever to fight, but not the greatest boxer."
Foreman, who is scheduled to fight Larry Holmes in January, lost the heavyweight title to Ali in Zaire in 1974. That historic fight, which was billed "The Rumble in the Jungle," was the subject of a documentary film titled When We Were Kings. The movie won an Academy Award last year.
