Avery West, Father Of JET Managing Editor, Dies

Services were held recently in Cincinnati, OH, for Avery West, 84, the father of JET Magazine Managing Editor Malcolm R. West.
He succumbed to Alzheimer's Disease at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, IL.
Born in Eatonton, GA, West was reared in Cincinnati, OH.
After he served in the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years in Europe during World War II, he returned to the U.S. and graduated from Coyne Electrical College in Chicago.
He was later employed as an electronics specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense based in the Midwest. He retired from government service after 34 years.
A devout Christian and family man, he was a longtime member of the Southern Baptist Church in Cincinnati where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board and chairman of the Finance Committee until his health began to fail.
In addition to his son, Malcolm, West is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Thomas E., Craig A. and stepson William M. Cooper; daughters, Janice A. West-Wheatley, Michelle West-Jones, Wanda W. Hicks and Emilee W. McClellan; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
