Vicki R. Palmer, vice president and treasurer of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. in Atlanta, was elected senior vice president and special assistant to the chief executive officer. As special assistant, Palmer will lead corporate affairs and help establish the strategic direction of the company's organizational development efforts. She will continue her role as treasurer, managing the company's $11 billion debt portfolio, $3 billion pension plan and 401 (k) plan investments.

Pamela Thomas-Graham, the first Black female partner at the management consulting firm of McKinsey & Company, was made executive vice president of New York-based NBC and CEO of CNBC.com, making her the highest-ranking female line manager at NBC. She will report directly to the president and CEO of NBC and lead the management team of the Internet site.

M. Yvette Miller, judge of the State Court of Fulton County (GA), was appointed by Georgia Governor Roy Barnes as the first Black woman to serve on the state's Court of Appeals. Judge Miller began her legal career as a law clerk in the Fulton County State Court. In 1992 she was the first Black and the first woman director/judge appellate division on the State Board of Worker's Compensation.

Dr. George Campbell Jr., president and CEO of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, has been selected as president of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. He is the first Black to hold that position in the college's 141-year history. Cooper Union is the only private, full-scholarship college in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to engineering, art and architecture.

Joe M. Cothron, director of education, Eighth United States Army Korea, was presented the prestigious Tilton Davis Military Educator of the Year Award by the Committee on Military Education and Training at the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education Conference in San Antonio, TX. Nominees are selected from military and civilian educators worldwide who educate service-members.
