In the early 22nd century, the crew of the medical rescue vessel Nightingale 229 has recently departed for a routine patrol of deep space. The crew, Captain A.J. Marley, co-pilot Nick Vanzant, chief medical officer Kaela Evers, computer engineer Benj Sotomejor, medical tech Yerzy Penalosa and paramedic Danika Lund have no idea that an alien artifact has been mined out of a rouge moon millions of light years away but when the emergency distress signal finds them, they have no choice but to respond. Dimension-jumping through space, the ship arrives in the center of a massive celestial storm and in direct gravitational pull from a blue giant star about to implode. The Nightingale must also contend with Karl Larson, the charismatic and mysterious young man they've rescued. Crew members start turning up dead, the survivors must unravel their refugee's secret and escape to their home galaxy before the giant star goes supernova.
