Caption: WORTHY PROSECUTOR: Kym Worthy (r), former Wayne County, MI, assistant prosecutor and circuit judge, is sworn into office by Wayne County Circuit Judges Patricia Fresard (1) and Maria Oxholm as the county's first Black and first female prosecutor as her daughter Anastasia, 6, looks on in Detroit. Worthy, 47, received 34 of 62 votes cast by her former peers on the bench--more than any other candidate. She replaces Michael Duggan, who resigned from the post. A graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Notre Dame law school, Worthy joined the Wayne County prosecutor's office in 1984 and rose to prominence for winning convictions against two police officers in the 1992 death of motorist Malice Green, a case that garnered national attention. In 1994, Worthy was elected judge on the Wayne County Circuit Court. She served nearly nine years before she stepped down last August to run for interim prosecutor. She will run for the permanent post in August.
