Republicans were all set to make a grand splash at the Detroit Urban League conference after President George W. Bush announced he'd speak there. But Democrats were waiting for them. Not only was Sen. John Kerry slated to speak, but party stalwarts such as former Urban League director Vernon Jordan, Alexis Herman and Florida educator Art Collins were on hand to rouse the record attendance.
