Michael Eric Dyson joins Georgetown University's faculty

Scholar and lecturer Michael Eric Dyson has accepted a teaching position at Georgetown University.

Dyson will teach courses that explore religion, culture, and society at the Washington, D.C.-based university, which is ranked among the nation's top institutions of higher learning.

"Professor Dyson is an intellectual leader in society and academia," said Georgetown Provost James J. O'Donnell in the school's announcement. "At Georgetown we look forward to his continued societal impact and anticipate the contributions he will make to enhance our vibrant academic community."

A former professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Dyson was the Avalon professor in the humanities in the Department of Religious Studies. He also taught previously at DePaul University, the Chicago Theological Seminary, the University of North Carolina, and Brown University.

He is the author of 14 books.
