IN MEMORY OF LOUIS: In memory of the legendary trumpeter/singer Louis "Satchmo' Armstrong, the city of New Orleans has renamed its airport Louis Armstrong, New Orleans International Airport. The city's mayor, Marc Morial, recently signed an ordinance honoring the city's most famous native, whose unique style is recognized around the world.

A ceremony to unveil a new design and logo will be held at the airport, formally known simply as New Orleans International Airport, on Aug. 2, two days before the 100th anniversary of the famous musician's birth. Armstrong, one of the most influential artists in jazz history, was a dominant force on the swing era and was known as one of the inventors of "scatting." Armstrong is best remembered for his songs Mack The Knife, Hello Dolly and What A Wonderful World.
