Emanuel Steward takes top coaching position for USA boxing

Emanuel Steward, who has trained a number of professional world champions, was recently named the national director of coaching for USA Boxing. He will be in charge of a program for training USA Boxing's amateur coaches and athletes.

The 57-year-old Steward has coached amateur boxers out of Detroit's Kronk Gym. Professional champions he's trained include Lennox Lewis, Thomas Hearns, Milton McCroy, Michael Moorer, Hilmer Kenty, Aaron Pryor, Evander Holyfield and Leon Spinks.

USA Boxing president Robert Voy said, "With the name of Emanuel Steward as national director of coaching, USA Boxing has taken a major step in bringing its athletes to a new level of success in international Olympic-style boxing."
