Latrell Sprewell leaves New York in six-player, four-team NBA deal

It's official: Latrell Sprewell is leaving the city that never sleeps for a little Midwest flavor.

Sprewell was one of six players involved in a four-team NBA trade that sent him from the New York Knicks to the Minnesota Timber-wolves. The deal also sent Glenn Robinson (from Atlanta) and Marc Jackson (from Minnesota) to Philadelphia; Keith Van Horn (from Philadelphia) to New York; and Terrell Brandon (from Minnesota) and Randy Holcomb (Philadelphia) to Atlanta. Two draft picks were also exchanged.

The trade ends Sprewell's five-season tenure with the Knicks, which included a trip to the 1999 NBA Finals. In his 11-year career, Sprewell averaged 19.1 points and 4.2 rebounds.

"Latrell gives us a very athletic swing player, something we have said since the end of last season that we needed," Minnesota vice president Kevin McHale said. "He will give us tremendous defensive effort every time he steps on the court. He has played in a number of big games and has not been afraid to take big shots over his career."
