Jet, Feb 16, 2004

Herbs are nature's gift to good cooking and are used to enhance the taste of many food choices. By adding herbs you turn a regular, plain dish into something special. Try making these tasty Herbed Buttermilk Biscuits for a welcome change.

HERBED BUTTERMILK BISCUITS

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
2 teaspoons chopped fresh basil
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1/2 cup slightly softened butter or
margarine
1 cup buttermilk

Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper into medium bowl. Add dill, basil and thyme. Cut butter into the flour mixture with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture is crumbly. Add buttermilk all at once, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface knead 4 to 6 times. Roll dough into 3/4-inch thickness; cut into rounds with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake biscuits at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, until tops are golden brown.
