A Very Proud Moment

Jet, July 19, 1999

Christine Ragland (in wheelchair) is accompanied by her proud sister, Della, after she received a bachelor's degree in English from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Della received an honorary bachelor's degree because she has been a very integral part of Christine's life. Since birth Christine has suffered from a protein deficiency that prevents her from walking.

Her speech is also impaired. However, she has a very sharp mind and was determined to get through college, doing so in six years. She graduated with a 3.0 grade point average. Della drove her to and from school, even sat with her in class and helped her take notes. Said Christine, "It was difficult, but with the will of God, I got through."
