CONDOLEEZZA RICE BEGINS TENURE AS TOP U.S. DIPLOMAT: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice meets Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair before the start of their 90-minute meeting at Blair's No. 10 Downing Street office in London to discuss Iraq, the Middle East and other subjects. The meeting was her first meeting with a foreign leader since taking over from Colin Powell as the top American diplomat.
It also was just one of her stops during a tour of Europe and the Middle East. "Now is the time for our diplomacy to put our alliance to work in the service of great goals and great opportunities that stand before us," she said.
