The break-up of the AFL-CIO well could create a difficult situation for the future advancement of the Civil Rights Movement. Besides being a constant ally in the job, education and voter registration spheres, the combined labor unions helped finance many worthwhile projects in the Black community. Now Blacks wait to see whether the breakaway unions will launch organizing drives in more service industries and inspire another generation of Black union members.
