Caption: DNA CLEARS MAN OF RAPE AFTER NEARLY 20 YEARS IN PRISON: Thomas Doswell hugs his girlfriend Crystal Glover after his release from Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh. Doswell, who spent nearly 18 years behind bars for a rape he didn't commit, has been released after new tests of DNA evidence cleared him. Doswell's case drew the attention of the nonprofit Innocence Project at the Benjamin N. Cardoza School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York. Convicted in 1986, Doswell was sentenced to 13-26 years in prison. He was denied parole four times because he refused to accept responsibility for the crime. Prosecutors originally opposed DNA testing for Doswell, but a judge ordered it. When the tests proved Doswell's innocence, prosecutors filed motions to vacate his sentence and have him released.
