This week is: national truck driver appreciation week

Jet, August 28, 2006

The observance is a national effort to acknowledge the contributions of truck drivers to the nation's economic survival. Throughout the week, trucking industry manufacturers and suppliers, state trucking associations and other groups honor truckers in a variety of ways, among them-million-mile and safety awards, cash bonuses and company picnics.

In 2005, the trucking industry hauled 10.7 billion tons of freight, or 68% of total U.s. freight tonnage.
