New Sergeant Major

NEW SERGEANT MAJOR: U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Major Alford McMichael is congratulated by Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Charles C. Krulak after ceremonies posting McMichael as the 14th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps at the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C. McMichael's appointment has additional historical significance for the Corps in that the Hot Springs, AR, native is also the first Black to hold the prestigious office.
The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps is the senior enlisted advisor to the Commandant. The person who holds this post "serves as the ultimate example of what every Marine should strive to be."
