Kirk Franklin Wins Big At Stellar Gospel Awards Ceremony

Gospel superstar Kirk Franklin swept this year's Stellar Gospel Music Awards ceremony, winning eight of the coveted honors during the recent ceremony at the Atlanta Civic Center.

Franklin won as Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (Lean On Me), CD of the Year (The Nu Nation Project), Contemporary Choir of the Year and Rap/Hip Hop Gospel CD of the Year.

Other big winners included gospel vocalist Vickie Winans who won three awards, Female Vocalist of the Year, Traditional Vocalist of the Year and the Traditional CD of the Year (Vickie Winans Live in Detroit II).

Famed gospel recording star Donnie McClurkin came away with the Male Vocalist of the Year and the Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year award for his work on the Prince of Egypt Inspiration CD.

Popular gospel star Richard Smallwood, whose latest album is Healing--Live in Detroit, picked up an honor in the Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year, Choir of the Year and Traditional Choir of the Year categories.

Other award recipients included Kim Burrell, Men of Standard, the Christianaires and Ben Tankard.

The awards ceremony, which is airing in syndication through Feb. 6 (check local listings), was hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones, Vickie Winans and Donnie McClurkin.
