Moss' Million-Dollar Deal
Jet, August 13, 2001
Minnesota Vikings' Randy Moss recently signed a contract extension that, based on annual averages, makes him the highest-paid Black player in the NFL and the third-richest player overall (behind quarterbacks Drew Bledsoe and Brett Favre). The Vikings' star wide receiver, who didn't sign earlier with the team, will get $75 million over 8 years, including an $18 million signing bonus.
"I've been planning on this day for a long time," the three-year veteran said. "Security for me and my family is now here. I would like to give thanks to God for making my talent and my name stand out, and being able to keep me healthy so that I could be in this position." Moss, 24, one of the premier players in the league, had 226 catches, 4,163 yards and 43 touchdowns in his three seasons, the best for any wide receiver over that period in NFL history.
