FATHER & DAUGHTER PILOT TEAM: Mike Lewis and his daughter, Nicole Lewis, are Southwest Airlines' first and only Black father and daughter pilot team. Mike Lewis, captain, has been with Southwest since 1994. He began his flying career in 1983 with Frontier Airlines and has flown with more than a half dozen commercial airlines. Nicole, 26, is a first officer and joined Southwest in 2002 as the airline's first Black female pilot and has logged more than 1,200 flying hours. She is a graduate of Arizona State University and has participated in the Organization of Black Airline Pilots and Women In Aviation, International (WIA). Southwest is the only commercial airline that employs a Black father/daughter pilot team.
