Clyde E. Bailey Sr., a patent attorney at Eastman KodakCompany, recently was inaugurated as president of the National Bar Association at its 78th annual convention in New Orleans.

As the 61st president of the nation's oldest and largest national association of predominately Black lawyers and judges, Bailey said he plans to focus on increasing service to traditionally underserved communities and working to increase the representation of minorities and women in the judiciary.

Bailey, who joined Kodak in 1991 after management and legal positions at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has prepared and prosecuted more than 500 patent applications in a variety of technologies.

The attorney, who spent 10 years a physicist and an engineer before he attended law school, holds degrees from Virginia State University, the University of Rochester, Cleveland State University and the National Law Center of the George Washington University.

He currently works as a member of the photographic company's Patent Legal Staff, supporting the Research and Development organization in Rochester, NY. Bailey is also president of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

The NBA, founded in 1925 by 12 African-American lawyers in Des Moines, IA, currently represents more than 20,000 lawyers, judges, educators and law students.
