Bishop Horace E. Smith, M.D., elected to lead Pentecostal Assemblies of the World

Bishop Horace E. Smith, M.D. a practicing physician and pastor of Apostolic Faith Church in Chicago, was recently named presiding bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World during its 89th annual Convention at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.

Bishop Smith will serve a three-year term over the organization that has over a thousand churches and 1.5 million members.

"We have an awesome task ahead of us, as we move forward as one people-one mind--one spirit. For those of you who don't know me, I pray that you will be fair. For those of you who know me you know that I am a family man. I believe family is the key to the success of this organization. I praise God for all of you, in Jesus' name," said Smith.

Smith, 54, is also a pediatric hematologist and oneologist at Children's Memorial Hospital where he is director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell/ Thalassemia Program. He also teaches pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University.

He has been pastor of Apostolic Faith Church for 23 years. Smith earned his bachelor's degree from Chicago State University and graduated from the University of Illinois Medical Center.

Smith and his wife, Susan, have been married for 27 years and have three daughters, Lauren, Rachel, and Emily.
