Gen. William E. Ward is new U.S. Middle East security coordinator

Army Lt. Gen. William E. Ward has been named the new security coordinator in the Middle East.

Selected by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Ward has served as deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army in Europe since November 2003. He brings more than three decades of experience in the military to his new post.

As security coordinator, Ward will represent U.S. involvement by helping to resolve security tensions between Israeli and Palestinian factions divided by religious and territorial disputes.

He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Morgan State University in Maryland, and a master's degree in political science from Penn State.
