HONORING MALCOLM X AND OSSIE DAVIS:

Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of the late civil rights activist Malcolm X, and director Spike Lee arrive at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Malcolm X's death and to pay special tribute to the late Ossie Davis in New York's Harlem neighborhood. Davis was a personal friend of Malcolm X and delivered his eulogy. The event also marked the debut of director Spike Lee's new two-disc special edition DVD of the 1992 film Malcolm X. For the film, Lee got Davis to recreate the eulogy he gave at Malcolm X's funeral in 1965. Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington, who portrayed Malcolm X in the movie, Wesley Snipes, and the Rev. Al Sharpton attended the event.
