Historic Black Regiment's Flag Found

Jet, Feb 1, 1999

Television cameramen photograph a Civil War Battle Flag of the 12th Regiment Corps d' Afrique, one of the first units comprised of Black soldiers in the Union Army, at FBI Headquarters in Philadelphia. The flag, recently recovered by the FBI, had been missing for at least 22 years after it was stolen from an Army museum while en route to Fort Jackson, SC.

Charles Wilhite of Overland Park, KS, was arrested by special agents of the FBI and Philadelphia Police Detectives as he flew from Kansas in possession of the battle flag and tried to sell it to an undercover agent.
