Bassey Made A Dame

Jet, August 7, 2000

Welsh singer Shirley Bassey proudly holds the award she was presented by Queen Elizabeth II who made her a dame during a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace in London. "I am shaking more now than I was before. I have got a lump in my throat and I am nearly in tears," said Bassey, 63, after the ceremony which she attended with her daughter, Sharon Barton, grandson, Luke Barton, and manager, Beudoin Mills.

A 45-year-show business veteran, Bassey is best-known for the sultry theme song to the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. She later went on to score 10 British top 10 hits.
