Halle Berry, Chris Rock, Steve Harris, Danny Glover Among Prime-Time Emmy Nominees

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, the hit HBO movie about the first Black Actress nominated for a best actress Academy Award, was one of the big winners during the recent Emmy Award nominations, garnering 11 nods.

The movie, which won a Golden Globe Award for Halle Berry as best actress last winter, received nominations that included best made-for-television movie, lead actress in a miniseries or movie, best directing in a miniseries or movie, cinematography, single camera editing, hairstyling, costumes, sound editing, choreography and art direction. Klaus Maria Brandauer, who co-starred as director Otto Preminger, received a best supporting actor nomination.

The other big winner in the Emmy race was comedian Chris Rock, whose show, Chris Rock: Bigger and Blacker, received six nominations. It received nods for best performance in variety or music program, best variety, music or comedy series, writing, technical direction, directing and multi-camera picture editing for a miniseries or special. Rock was also nominated for "The Chris Rock Show" in the category of best variety, music or comedy series.

"The Corner," the HBO miniseries about Black families in inner-city Baltimore, received several nominations, including best miniseries, casting and directing of a miniseries. Other major Black nominees included Steve Harris, best supporting actor in dramatic series (The Practice"); Danny Glover, best supporting actor in a miniseries or movie (Freedom Song); Beah Richards, guest actress in drama series ("The Practice"); "Behind the Music" (Tina Turner) VH1, best non-fiction series; and The Little Richard Story for best music direction.

The Emmy Awards will be presented on ABC in the fall.
