Jet, July 5, 1993
Tuskegee University has been sued for $14 million by seven students who have accused administrators of violating campus guidelines on due process in disciplinary hearings.
The seven students were suspended for their participation in a March 19 sit-in at Tuskeegee's administration building. Five of the protesters were suspended indefinitely and two others (the president and vice president of the student government) were suspended until August 1994.
University officials said in a statement that the sit-ins, organized by the Student Government Association, "had deteriorated to a riotous state, including theft of property, damage to the building, and injury to university security personnel."
