Jet, Jan 10, 1994
Trade and promotion offices for the state of Virginia will be opened next year in two African nations in an unprecedented effort of the Southern state to develop trade and commerce, Gov. L. Douglas Wilder announced in Richmond.
The move will mark the first time that the state has sought to do business in Africa. The offices will be opened in Gaberone, Botswana and Dakar, Senegal to handle trade in western and southern Africa.
Gov. Wilder, whose term ends in mid-January, initiated the drive for the state to invest $250,000 to operate the offices in a worldwide network to bolster trade and attract development.
