Although it's her first time holding public office, Eunice M. Wilder, nonetheless, is very familiar with politics.
The newly appointed treasurer of Richmond, Va. is the former wife of Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder. Additionally, her only son, L. Douglas Wilder Jr., was elected to his first term in the state House of Delegates from Richmond's 70th District.
It is reported, however, that in Mrs. Wilder's resume to the Richmond Circuit Court judges, who made the appointment, no mention was made about her personal affiliations.
A certified public accountant, Mrs. Wilder will complete the unexpired term of Dr. Franklin Gayles, a retired Virginia Union University government professor who was first elected to the post in 1977. In his letter of resignation, Gayles said he was leaving office because of personal reasons.
Mrs. Wilder reportedly will seek election in November for a full four-year term as treasurer.
The city treasurer's current budget is $152,410, most,of which is used for salaries.
The treasurer's salary, which is set by state law, is $46,105.
