New Sheriff-. Jackie Barrett raises a hand as she takes oath of office since her election as the nation's first Black female sheriff after defeating Interim Sheriff Robert McMichael in the race for Fulton County Sheriff. She is one of five Blacks - including Ricky Brown, Greene County; Logan Marshall, McDuffie County; James M.

Leslie, Taliaferro County; and John W. Bowens, Terrell County - to win seats as sheriff in Georgia counties. They were sworn in at Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Ga.
