Jet, July 12, 1993

Clarksdale, Miss. Mayor Henry Espy recently was reelected to a second term in a municipal election.

Espy, 50, beat independent challenger John Mayo by a margin of 56 percent, with 36 percent of the city's eligible 12,992 voters at the polls, according to final, but unofficial totals.

Espy, who is also president of the National Conference of Black Mayors, was elected mayor of Clarksdale four years ago when he unseated then-incumbent John Mayo in a municipal election.
