Jet, July 12, 1993
Famed bandleader Cab Calloway canceled his engagement at the recent JVC Jazz Festival in New York City because of a broken hip.
Calloway, 85, slipped and fell June 5 at his Westchester, N.Y., home, his spokesman told Jet.
"He feels terrible about not being able to make the show," his spokesman said. "He's under orders from his medical people. They just won't let him go."
Calloway is receiving therapy for his broken hip at a New York area medical center.
