The city of Opa Locka, Fla., is now $60 million richer thanks to a grant from the federal government.
The grant was presented to the city by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and enables the community located near Miami to revamp 328 apartments and town houses.
HUD Secretary Jack Kemp recently met with Mayor Robert B. Ingram to close the multi-million dollar deal.
According to the arrangements, $20 million will be devoted to complete renovation to the properties and $40 million will be attached to a 15-year Housing Assistance Program (HAP) to ensure the housing is affordable.
